Remedial Sport Massage
Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury. It puts an emphasis on the prevention of injuries to muscles and tendons, but is also good for those with injuries, chronic pain and restricted range of motion. It works best if the therapist can focus on a specific area or problem – such as pulled hamstrings or a frozen shoulder.

The Greeks, Romans and ancient Egyptians discovered the benefits of aromatic plants and oils the restore well-being. Today we use essential oils for as variety of conditions such as P.M.T., M.S., M.E. and they are also used to aid the immune system, improve circulation, help with stress related conditions, stimulate the lymphatic system and treat respiratory problems and some skin conditions.
Aromatherapy is a powerful natural healing treatment. It helps to ease the body physically, mentally and emotionally by encouraging the body’s own heling mechanisms to kick in. Since very early times we have known how extremely relaxing, soothing and beneficial touch can be, easing aches and pains, boosting self-confidence and detoxifying the body.
On your first visit the therapist will have a consultation with you to look at your symptoms, diet, lifestyle and other contributing factors. Using this information the therapist can then chose the correct oils to be used. These oils are blended with a carrier oil, to aid with the massaging, and then absorbed into the skin and inhaled through the respiratory system. They work on the body and are excreted naturally. Clients are encouraged to relax with the help or soothing music and soft lights.
Reflexology is an ancient natural healing process which was originally practiced by the Egyptians and the Chinese. It was based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet which correspond with the organs and functions of the body.
Gentle pressure is applied to the reflex points on the feet, this then helps unblock the energy channels, which restores the flow of energy and creates a feeling of well-being and peace.
Reflexology can be used to help a wide range of symptoms such as stress and tension, M.E., painful joints, sciatica, allergies, skin disorders, digestive problems, I.B.S., menstrual problems, poor circulation and migraines/headaches.
These are just a few sypmtoms which can be treated by reflexology. If you would like to know more about any of the treatments or advice please contact the salon.
On your first visit there will be a consultation along with treatment. This will take up to an hour. Consecutive treatments take up to 45 minutes.
Indian Head Massage
There was a tradition in India, amongst the women, of meeting in the afternoon for relaxation and mutual grooming. They massaged aromatic oils into each others hair using informal techniques. Routines developed which included head, neck and facial massages. Poor men trying to make some form of income, with no resources, practiced head massage in the streets. So the culture of a short therapy, without oils, on a seated person, wearing light clothing began.
The treatment is carried out with the client lying down or, if preferred, in a seated position. This is a deeply relaxing therapy, involving the massage of the shoulders, upper arms, face and head using base oil, which is optional. Indian head massage relaxes the scalp, stimulates the sebaceous glands and improves the circulation, helping to relieve eye strain and headaches. By manipulation of the muscles, it can relieve stress and tension in the upper back, shoulders, head and neck and other symptoms of a busy and stressful lifestyle.
The human body has the ability to heal itself, and is constantly trying to balance the body’s systems. Stress, whether it be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual, can lead to imbalances in the body, which hinder the body’s innate self-healing. The gentle Indian head massage causes muscles to relax, breathing to become more regular and deeper, improves posture and helps the body’s healing process.
